Creditor Harassment

Creditor Harassment

Creditor harassment refers to aggressive, abusive, or illegal tactics used by debt collectors or creditors to pressure individuals into paying debts. This can include repeated calls, threats, use of foul language, or contacting friends, family, or employers about the debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) protects consumers by prohibiting such behaviors. Under this law, debt collectors must treat individuals fairly and can face penalties for harassment. Victims have the right to request that collectors stop contacting them, dispute the debt, or report violations to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Legal action may also be taken to stop the harassment and seek damages.
